My name is Temitope Abiagom. A mother of two adorable girls, I live in Bedford. I have a background in  social work and work as a Project Lead at YWCA Halifax. I also volunteer with  the Immigrant Parents Network as a co- organizer. I’m committed to support the well-being of children, youth and marginalized populations and any work that promote equity, access to services /resources and meaningful change excites me!  When I’m not on mama duties or work assignments, I  like to read, dance and  travel -meet new people, explore new places and culture.

What are you most proud of professionally? And who or why?

I feel privileged to be in a position to support individuals, groups and communities. Being able to serve and make a difference  is a gift. I'm proud of all the individuals, groups and organizations promoting equity and supporting the wellbeing of our community.

What’s your vision for Atlantic Canada in 10 years? What’s our biggest opportunity now?

I envision a vibrant and prosperous society where everyone can contribute and truly belong. The increasing number of people calling the region home is an opportunity for long-term prosperity. There is beauty and strength in an inclusive diversity.

What was your greatest stage of growth? What made it a shift for you?

Moving to Canada was definitely a stage in my life that was  filled with lots of discomfort and frustrations. But that also came with growth and opportunities. Leaving everything you know behind to start a new life in a new country where you  start almost all over is daunting - from culture shock, to learning new stuff, as well as other experiences in between make it an interesting time. This is an on-going process for me.

What’s your favourite or most read book or podcast? Now or at each of your greatest stages of growth?

Many years ago I read a novel,  The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho and I pick it up from time to time. The story is a  reminder to live life fully and pursue your dreams.

Recently, I have come to enjoy Brene Brown's work on vulnerability.

What’s your deepest learning from this past year? How did/will you apply it?

With COVID and so many losses these past two years, it has become clearer  to me that life can be fragile. I strive to make time for what is most important and  to live a life full of kindness and gratitude. It’s also been a reminder to myself to take one day at a time

Who’s inspired you, directly or indirectly? How have they inspired you?

Many people have inspired me along the way and I'm thankful for them all.  But above all my daughters  inspire me the most. Everyday, I'm challenged to be more and become a better version of myself. I understand the influence I have on their lives and hope they grow up to be healthy, fulfill their potentials, and be a good global citizen.

What would you have done differently?

I am a work in progress- Each day is a gift to make better decisions and become a better version of myself. I believe all my experiences serve a purpose in who Temitope truly is :)

What motivated you to make the choices you’ve made?

For the most part, my desire to live an abundant life - fullness in spirit, body and soul, and to make a difference  has influenced many of the choices I made.
